Placer United U11 Girls Work as Ball Runners for the California Storm Game

The U11 Girls ’01 Elite had the opportunity to be the official ball runners for the California Storm’s first league game of the season last week. The California Storm is one of the top teams in the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL). The Storm’s roster is made up of former National team players and former/current top collegiate players. A few notable players are Brandi Chastain, former US National team star and Sissi, former Brazilian International.

Our Placer United girls circled the field for the match and helped track balls played out of bounds to keep the rhythm of the match flowing.

You can find the Storm’s game schedule on our website under “Club Events”

Placer United Well Represented in All League Selections

We are so proud of the athletes selected “First Team” throughout the Sac-Joaquin Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Placer United had strong representation from some extraordinary individuals who represent the region’s best athletic talent, voted on by high school coaches as the top female soccer players in their conference or league.

In addition, not one, but THREE Placer players were named MVPs. We couldn’t be happier for Savannah Coiner of Rocklin High School and Paige Crouch of Roseville High School, co-MVPs from Sierra Foothill League, as well as, Kim Hernandez of Galt High School, MVP from Sierra Valley Conference.

Congratulations to all this year’s First Team selections. Your hard work on the field has paid off with this significant accomplishment!

Erika Garcia Headed to Mexico For National Camp

Erika Garcia, U18 ’93 Girls Gold team, is getting the respect she deserves. Erika, who will be attending Harvard Univeristy next fall to study and play soccer, has the Mexican Soccer Federation interested in her.

Erika accepted an invitation to the Mexican National Team Combine which was held April 20-24 in Los Angeles. The event consisted mostly of friendly games and a number of scouts from the Mexican Soccer Federation were in attendance. A Mexican National Team Scout was also at the Las Vegas College Showcase in March to source potential players and had the chance to watch Erika play.

The purpose of the combine is to identify players who can compete within the Mexican National pools. With the 2011 Women’s World Cup approaching this summer in Germany, the Federation may be adding a few of the players from this combine to compete for roster spots at the World Cup.

The head coach for the Women’s U20 Team and the assistant coach to the Women’s National Team were both at the combine. They invited Erika to come to Mexico City, all expenses paid, to their National Camp in mid-May.

While this is exciting news, there’s more! There were coaches from Mexican American Soccer Association (MASA) at the combine as well. They were scouting for players for the Mexican National Olympics to be held in Metepec, Mexico, from May 30th to June 5th. MASA takes a team down and competes as another state in these Olympics.  Erika made the roster of eighteen women for the event and will be attending.

Congratulations and Good Luck Erika! Placer United is rooting for you!

Great CDA Line Up This Weekend!

Soccer Fans!

A huge weekend of soccer is coming up for CDA teams this weekend. Just as the weather begins to heat up, so does the race for USSF Academy playoffs spots.

Saturday, at Del Oro High School, the CDA teams host Cal Odyssey. The Odyssey have reached the USSF Academy National Finals the last two years and on both occasions lost the Final by a single goal. They will be bringing all that play-off experience to Loomis as they hope to return to the prestigious USSF Academy playoffs for the 3rd straight time.

Sunday sees the MLS San Jose Earthquakes Academy teams travel up to play CDA at Sacramento State’s Hornet field. The Quakes have an abundance of talent in their squads and will be looking to shake up CDA who have put together some impressive results over the last few weeks.

Kick off times for all games are 1:00pm and 3:30pm, so bring some sunscreen, water and plenty of noise to Del Oro on Saturday and Hornet Field on Sunday.
