Placer United Girls Teams in the Hunt for the NPL Champions League Title This Weekend

Three Placer United girls teams are in the hunt for the NPL Champions League title to be decided this weekend at the NPL Showcase in Davis.

The U15G Gold are currently tied for 2nd place and have a chance of winning the title after they knocked off first place Santa Clara Sporting.

The U16G Gold are sitting at the top of the standings after beating FC Elk Grove Navy.  If the girls win, they will be the Norcal NPL Champions.

The U18G 97 Gold are tied for 3rd place with a game in hand. If they win this weekend, they are likely to bring home the title.

The winner of the Champions League will receive an automatic bid to play for the NPL National Championship in Westfield, Indiana July 9-13, 2015.  The NPL Finals features the champions of all 19 NPLs across the United States in the U13 through U18 boys and girls age groups. Teams will play several group games before advancing to knock-out rounds to determine the NPL National Champion in every age group.

One of the most prestigious championships in the country, the NPL finals is the target destination for all NPL teams throughout the year-long, league-based competition each season.

Additionally, there will be a large number of college coaches at the event for recruiting purposes.   This is a very exciting time for our program.

The Placer United U18 97 Gold boys team won the National Championship earlier this year!

Good luck ladies! Go Placer!

The Granite Bay, California, native continues to lead the Pac-12 in points per game (1.86) and ranks second in total points with 26 on the year.

Placer United U11G Black Take the Placer Cup Championship

U11G_Placer United

For most of the girls on the Placer United U11G Black team, it’s been a few seasons of “almost”, but no championships. This all changed last weekend at the Placer United Girls Cup.

Along with the U13G Black, the girls were one of two teams who were able to take home the glory. The girls started the weekend off amazingly with a 1-0 win over Alliance FC and a 2-1 win over Ajax United. On Sunday morning the girls had a hiccup losing 2-0 against a quality Burlingame FC, but had already clinched a championship spot from the day before.

As the girls entered into their first ever championship game against an extremely good Fresno Chaos, you could sense a confident “this is my moment” excitement. Placer scored first with a gritty goal by Emily Parker, but the team gave up an equalizer late into the first half. The game ended 1-1 and the girls were off to a PK shootout. Kristi Truong, Jolie Goebel, Carissa Munsch and Vivian Mandell all burried the kick from the mark with Jessie Camarillo saving 3 out of 4.

An epic moment for this team and a reminder that hard work pays off! — Coach BJ

The U13B Black team, coached by Matt Scammacca, had a great undefeated run through the Santa Rosa United Nike Harvest Cup soccer tournament. They scored 13 goals and conceded 0.  In Game 1, the boys got off to a great start by defeating Santa Rosa AC Milan 3-0. In Game 2, they defeated the Black Oaks of Healdsburg, 7-0.  The boys had already clinched a spot in the finals before their third game. In Game 3, the boys went up against Santa Rosa Black Oaks and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. In the championship game, the team once again faced Santa Rosa Black Oaks who won their division as well.  The rematch was quite a different story with the Placer boys posting a convincing 3-0 victory. It was 0-0 at the half and then the boys exploded for three unanswered goals to claim the title.

The U12B Black team, coached by Jorge Fernandez, also had a great run through the tournament. In Game one, the boys had a 2-2 draw with Sacramento United Reds. In Game 2, the boys were pitted against the 2013 Norcal State Cup Finalist, Santa Rosa United Celtic. The boys ran into a buzz saw and came out on the losing end. In Game 3 the boys needed a win to advance to the championship game and they did just that, beating the Rohnert Park Rage 4-1. In the final, the boys once again were matched up against Santa Rosa Celtic. Placer ended up on the short end with a 5-2 defeat but competed very well.

Congratulations on a great weekend boys!
