U17 08G ECNL 2026 Grad Camryn Savig Commits to the Big Red of Cornell University!

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to play soccer at Cornell University. Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of continuing my athletic and academic journey at an extremely competitive school. I am so appreciative of the opportunity given to me by Coach Ferguson, Coach Krayer, and Coach Reid-Espinal.

I would not be where I’m at as a player without my mentor and technical trainer Bashar Askalati. Bashar has been instrumental in developing my technical skills, both on and off the ball. He has treated me like a daughter since our first training, and genuinely cared about me. With every early morning and late evening, he pushes me to be proficient in all areas of my position and never fails to bring the energy in every session. I also cannot thank my strength coach, Al Biancani, enough! Al taught me not just the physical side of competing at a high level, but the mental piece as well. He told me that there is always going to be someone that’s better than you at something. Work to be able to compete with them. Al continues to push me every training and always makes sure, and I quote, “to kick my butt!”

I had many amazing coaches along the way, one of which was Leo Marin. He truly believed in me and pushed me to work outside of my comfort zone. Coach Leo took the time to break down my performance and help me learn how to improve. I could always rely on him for constructive feedback. Last but definitely not least, coach Ron Benjamin. Coach Ron has helped me so much throughout the years. He encouraged me to develop certain qualities and to be a leader on the field. Not only has Ron been a major part of my development as a player but also throughout the recruitment process. He always makes the time to have a quick chat whenever I was nervous or unsure. Coach Ron believed that I could achieve something great and has worked so hard for me to get there. I owe Ron a lot for putting up with not one, but two Savigs!

I also wanted to say thank you to my family for always coming out and supporting me. My mom has been my greatest cheerleader along the way, while my dad always pushes me to become a better player. Throughout the ups and downs of my soccer career they never let me settle. My sister is always there for me no matter what. I owe it to her for bringing out the competitive side in me! She is also an amazing role model and I have never met someone with a work ethic like hers. I also want to thank my teammates! I’ve been very fortunate to play with such talented players and be able to compete in an amazing environment daily.

Again, huge thank you to everyone that has been in my corner throughout the process! I can’t wait to continue my journey at Cornell.

Go Big Red!” — Camryn Savig
