After a great showing by our girls and boys teams recently at the Davis College Showcase tournaments, the Placer United girls where back on the road again last weekend as they headed to the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase. With the temperature gauge and amount of college scouts reading the same triple digit numbers, Placer United was totally pumped up to show off their talents with the hope to regain center stage once again on the Placer website.
By the end of a sizzling weekend both on and off the field, the Placer girls really delivered, bringing home one Championship and four teams finishing as finalists.
Coach Ron Benjamin’s 99 Girls Gold had an outstanding weekend! They were placed in a top heavy U19 bracket which included two southern California clubs, one of which is a Surf ECNL group. But that didn’t faze Placer as they won all their games to finish in 1st place and were crowned Champions.
In the U19 Girls Super Division, Coach Todd DeCarlo’s 98 Girls Gold had a really tough competitive bracket with three top ranked southern California teams and the number one ranked team from Washington. The girls got off to a great start by beating a tough SoCal Blues ECNL team 1-0, and finished out a great weekend by taking home second place.
The Placer 01 Girls Gold started off their weekend in fine style as they were involved in one of the games of the day against a Seattle Sounders affiliate team. With no quarter given or asked by either team, the game was a back and forth intense affair played out in front of a packed sideline of college scouts with none of them moving away from the 4-3 spectacular goal fest.
The 01 Girls followed up their four goals in their first game to score another four goals in their second game and fourth games to round out their weekend and finish second place.
Not to be outdone by the 01Girls Gold team, the Placer 01 Girls Black team, led by coach Sarah Fawcett, also had a great weekend playing against some strong teams from southern California and Washington. The 01 Girls started out with a well deserved win against Pacific Northwest 01 Girls, and then matched the gold team by also scoring four in their second game. The girls were really unlucky as they lost out on a first place finish by a single point to also finish in second place.
Lastly, playing up a year in the 02 Girls Super Division, the Placer 03 Girls Gold had an outstanding weekend playing against older teams from Hawaii, Washington and southern California. The girls won three of their four games and only narrowly lost out to a very athletic Slammers team by a score of 2-1 to finish in second place.
Great weekend ladies and congratulations on all your success! Go Placer!
