August 23, 2016 — Placer United 08G Gold had further success at the Union FC Champions Cup this past weekend fighting off tough competition from Ethos in the group stages and beating rival San Juan Spirit Blue in the final. Saturday was a relaxed day for the girls beating El Dorado Hills 9-1 and then San Juan Spirit White 10-1. With Ethos 08 girls having similar results to Placer on Saturday it came down to the early game on Sunday and was an end to end from start to finish. Placer took their opportunities and came away 2-0 winners advancing them into the final. San Juan Blue was not going to let Placer win easily and the game was a tough battle, but Placer managed to set the pace of the game, and San Juan was unable to keep up. Early in the second half, Isla Sieber finished the ball beautifully from a through ball, putting the girls 1-0. With a strong defense and team unit, the girls came away worthy winners of the tournament.
Placer United 08G Gold is certainly the team to watch out for as they move into the Fall Season, with two tournaments and two trophies respectably earned. Even Team Mascot Buddy (dog) joined in on the celebration!
Placer’s 07G Gold team took second place with a successful weekend scoring 13 goals in the group stages and conceding zero. However, a tough IR Academy elite team in the final was hard to break down and the girls took second place losing 3-1.
Great job by the young ladies in yellow! Go Placer!
