Placer United Girls Have Excellent Run in San Diego Over Thanksgiving

U15G Elite Destiny Butcher and Sydney Talmi against Surf
Five Placer United teams travelled to San Diego over the Thanksgiving weekend to compete against some of the best teams in the country.
Highlighting the weekend was the U16 Elite 96’s. They competed at the November Nights College Showcase hosted by Carlsbad Elite. The girls had three consecutive victories and won their showcase group. They opened up play with a 1-0 win versus West Coast FC, then had a 2-1 win versus Real SoCal Blue and finished the event with a 1-0 win over Bay Oaks.
Placer U14 and U15 Elite girls competed in the Surf Thanksgiving Tournament. The U14 Elite 98’s finished the weekend with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw. They opened up with a loss to Arsenal ECNL but bounced back with a 0-0 draw versus LAFC and a 1-0 win versus Players SC from Las Vegas. The U15 Elite 97’s finished the weekend with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw. In the first game, the girls came up short in a 1-2 loss to LaRoca out of Utah after a dominating performance. The girls then beat Oranje Vutbol 1-0 to setup a rematch to advance to the semi’s versus the San Diego Surf ECNL. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, barely missing out on the quarter-finals. This is the second time this season the girls have drawn with the Surf.
The U17 and U18 Elite girls competed in the Surf College Cup. The U17 Elite 95’s were pitted against one of the top teams in the country on Day 1, Legends Breakaway. The girls fought hard but came up short. In game 2, the girls became only the second Placer United girls team to beat the SoCal Blues ECNL, 1-0, one of the top girls clubs in the country. The girls finished off the weekend with a 0-0 draw with Toro Booyah from Nebraska. The girls had a relentless attack in the final 10 minutes but couldnt find the back of the net. They finished with a 1-1-1 record barely missing the playoffs. The U18 Elite girls had one win and 2 draws and barely missed out on the semi-finals. The U18’s also made history being the first Placer team to defeat the San Diego Surf ECNL, 1-0. The girls scored early against the two time USYSA National Champion and then held on for the victory. The girls also drew 0-0 with West Coast FC ECNL and drew 1-1 with 811 Creeks Clash, the Florida State Champion.
This was a great weekend for Placer United soccer. We had 7 wins, 3 losses and 5 draws versus some of the top competition in the country. Placer played in front of many college coaches as the Thanksgiving weekend is one of the top college recruiting periods.
Placer U9G Elite and U10B Premier State Cup Results
Placer’s U9G Elite won their Quarter Final game 5-0 versus Mustang Stars of the Gold 1 bracket, while the U10B Premier beat Livermore Fusion 3-0 in the Silver 1 bracket to clinch their places in the next round.
On to the final stages in Manteca for both teams…the U10B Premier came up against Newark Atlas and after a very close game, Newark scored in extra time to win 3-2 via the Golden Goal ruling. It was a tough loss for the boys since they had played well and can look back on a couple of wasted oppurtunities which passed by in regular time.
The U9G Elite had a semi-final game against Inter Rage and after dominating the first half, a final shot let Placer down so it was still 0-0 at halftime. In the second half, Inter scored early to put Placer on the back foot but goals from Camille Garcia and Grettel Sainz got the girls in front and we eventually held out to win 2-1 and set up a final with Grypons SC.
The final was Sunday and unfortunately the girls’ efforts of the previous day took its toll and the team could not replicate the same result, losing 4-0. However, both teams can be extremely proud of getting to the latter stages of the competition and we’re very proud of their hard work in the build up to the games.
