Cal Franze Commits to University of Colorado in Colorado Springs

College Bound_Cal Franze_2014

“I feel honored (and very relieved) to have committed to University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, to play Division 2 Soccer. Not only does this school offer great academic opportunity, it allows me to pursue two sports I love, soccer and ice hockey. I’d like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout my entire youth soccer career and always being my number one fans. I’d also like to give a special thanks to Quinn McArthur and his staff who got me back on the field after fracturing my spine last year, and to my coach Cory Clonce, who made me believe in myself and for always pushing me to be my best. Lastly, a huge thanks to anyone who doesn’t think a “B team” player can play in college at a high level, it was a huge motivator.” — Cal Franze

Thank you Placer United for your commitment to soccer development and all the opportunities that the club has provided for our team. Thanks to Jason Gantt, Kelcey Chaidez, and Paul O’Brian for your leadership and for making me a better soccer player, as well as a better person. Also, I would like to thank my team mates for all of the amazing memories. You are all my brothers!  Lastly I am very grateful for my family. Three Placer Teams Reach the Final at Copa del Ray Tournament

Coach John Bustos and the U10B Black, Copa del Rey tournament champions!

Coach John Bustos and the U10B Black, Copa del Rey tournament champions!

The Placer United U9 and U10 teams concluded their 2014/15 season by competing in the Copa del Rey Tournament December 6-7, 2014. Placer United had three teams reach the final!

Highlighting the weekend for the Club was U10B Black. Coach John Bustos and the boys capped off a great State Cup run finishing in the Final Four and as State Cup 2 Finalist by winning the Championship at the Copa del Rey Tournament.  They went undefeated in 4 matches scoring 9 goals and only receiving 1 goal.  They beat their local rival Galaxy Blues 1-0 in an exciting final that had all the spectators at the edge of their seats throughout the match.  The winning goal was scored by center midfielder Davy Padilla who was dominant throughout and the leading scorer of the tournament.

The U9G Gold team had a fantastic run. Winning 1-0 on two occasions along with a 0-0 draw to help them advance to the final. This battles took it’s toll on the team unfortunately, and they came up against an in form Elk Grove Navy team and lost in the final.   It was a great effort by Coach Sarah and the girls, which highlighted their fantastic growth this season.

The U10G Black team also made it to their division final courtesy of two 1-1 draws and a 2-0 win. In the final, the team unfortunately lost out 2-0, but it’s been another good year for Coach Janis’ group who did so well in their State Cup run a few weeks back.

Placer United U10G Gold started the tournament extremely well with two wins of 1-0 and 3-0 to set them up nicely. However, they lost 1-0 in a close game on Sunday morning to knock them out of the tournament and the chance to set up a Placer versus Placer finale.

The U9B Gold team had a mixed bag of results, with one win and two losses.  They were in contention to reach the final heading into Sunday. The U9B Black team played well in  in a very difficult bracket but came up on the short end.

Placer U10B Gold had a tough weekend in a very competitive division. They had three very narrow defeats but played very well.

The U10B White team had a difficult opening day with two losses. They responded well the following day and ended their season with a 1-1 draw versus Stockton.

Congratulations to all of our U9 and U10 teams this season!
