College Bound_Brendan Adame_2015

“I am proud to announce that I have committed to play at Dominican University of California. First, I would like to thank the coaches who helped get me ready for this next level, Coach Matt McDougall, Coach Matt Scammacca and Coach Paul O’Brien. In the last ten years that I’ve played for Placer, your coaching has prepared me well for this amazing opportunity. Over the last couple of years, Coach McDougall has helped me so much with the college recruiting process, as well as my own personal soccer progress. You all have given me the tools for success, and I really appreciate all you’ve done for me and my teammates. And to my teammates, I want mine to know how much I love them, and that I’ll never forget this team and all we’ve accomplished over the past several years. I’m really going to miss you guys. Most of all, I would like to thank my family for supporting me through it all, no matter what decisions I made. I love you all so much for your support and guidance on and off the field, and for the sacrifices you’ve made over the years so that I could play soccer. I cannot wait for what my future soccer career has in store for me at Dominican, and I thank Placer United for putting me in a position to make this happen.”— Brendan Adame

Sacramento, CA December 18, 2015 — Placer United’s U14/15 Boys Academy Donates Over 1800 Items to the Homeless

Placer United Soccer Club’s U14/15 Boys United States Soccer Federation Development Academy held a donation collection last week for homeless families in the greater Sacramento region.  The collection was launched on December 9th and ran through December 18, 2015.  The team set a goal of collecting 700 food and toiletry items during the collection period.  The boys exceeded their goal by collecting more than 1,800 items with the help of local families and businesses including Primo Pizza, Costco, Mark Healy from Sysco Foods, and Debbie Hiltz.

The donations were delivered by the Academy boys on December 19th to the Union Gospel Mission in Sacramento, which serves more than 9,000 meals each month, provides shelter for any homeless individual to come in out of the adverse weather and get a warm meal, fresh clothing, a place to shower, and numerous other items they need, 365 days per year.

While there, the boys took a tour and learned about the risks and fears homeless individuals face every day.  “This experience has shown me the importance of helping others, as well as why it’s important for us to stay focused on both school and soccer.”  said Academy Goalkeeper Cole Phillips.  “This was a great way to give back to those who are less fortunate and not provided with the same great opportunities that we are provided with.”

The Placer Academy team consists of seventeen players, practices four days per week and plays one game per weekend throughout their 15-month season.  But this weekend the coach and team wanted to do something different.  “These boys work hard all season long and get to play on some of the best facilities around,” said Coach Kevin Unsworth.  “It’s important we help them develop not only on the field as elite players but off the field as citizens. In an attempt to give something back to the local community we felt it would be nice to organize a small event, while allowing the boys to experience first hand just how fortunate they are to have a stable home life, education and loving families.”

About Placer United Academy: The Placer United Development Academy program provides opportunities for elite players to develop in the most challenging and competitive soccer environment possible.  The Academy connects National Team coaches directly with the Academy clubs to develop and identify players for future Youth National Teams.  The technical, tactical, physical, and mental development of the players are focal points of the competitive curriculum. Placer has trained a number of players who are now State and Region IV ODP players, Region 6 and State PDP players, ID2 players, youth National Team players, USL and MLS players.

Ryan Kelly of U17 99 Gold Commits to Sonoma State University

College Bound_Ryan Kelly_2015“I am very proud to announce that I have verbally committed to play soccer at Sonoma State University. This is truly a dream come true for me to play at the next level for at least 4 more years! First off, I would like to thank Coach Ziemer for giving me the opportunity to come to his program. Your positive words of encouragement recently have made me a better person and a better player. I would also like to thank my team here at Placer. I love all you guys and I will never forget this team. I know I have only been here for 1 season but you guys welcomed me like I have been here my whole life and I will forever be thankful for that. Next, I would like to thank my parents. There are no words to sum up what they have done for me in my soccer life. They have driven me all over the state just so I can play this game, take me to practice, and give me words of encouragement when I need it most. I love you both. Lastly, I would like to thank my coach Matt McDougall. I will never be able to thank you enough for all you have done for me. You have made me a better goalie and helped me as much as I needed it during the recruiting process. You have always been there for me no matter how many questions I asked at any time of the day. You are the best coach a player can ask for. I will never forget Placer United and all the memories I have made here but, I cannot wait for the next step in my soccer career and what it has in store for me at Sonoma State University. Go Seawolves!” — Ryan Kelly

December 18, 2015

Energy FC announced Friday that the club has signed former Premier Development League standout Luis Martinez for the 2016 season.

The 5-5, 140-pound midfielder from Barra de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico spent the 2015 season with FC Tucson of the PDL, where he was named one of the league scouting network’s top 50 prospects. Martinez played collegiately at Chico State, where he earned All-CCAA honors in 2012.

“We always have our eyes on players as they come through the PDL, and Luis is a player who got great reviews from the staff at FC Tucson last year,” Energy FC head coach Jimmy Nielsen said. “He is a dynamic playmaker we are excited to add to the mix”

Martinez will join Energy FC players for the Plaza Mayor at the Crossroads Posada celebration from 2:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Martinez is the first non-returning player signed by Energy FC for 2016, joining forward Peter Toth, midfielders Daniel Gonzalez and Chuy Sanchez, defenders Coady Andrews and Kalen Ryden, and goaltender Ray Clark as players officially signed for the 2016 season.

Maleah Milner of ’00 Gold Commits to St. Mary’s College in Moraga

College Bound_Maleah Milner_2015

“I am honored and excited to announce I have committed to play soccer for Saint Mary’s College in California! Making the decision to commute from Reno to Roseville for soccer is the best thing I have ever done. I’m beyond grateful for my family’s dedication to driving me around 600 miles a week to training and games solely to help me achieve my dream of playing D1 soccer. I am incredibly thankful for my team, who pushes me every single day to work harder and who I know I can always count on. I would also like to thank Ron Benjamin immensely for his encouragement, and for shaping me into the player and person I am today. Additionally I would like to thank Matt Bernard and Matt McDougall who have assisted my development as a goalkeeper exponentially through my years at Placer. I am also very thankful for Lauren McAdam who took the time to train me when I first fell in love with goalkeeping and continues to support me over six years later. Another huge thank you to every goalkeeper I have trained with, as you all make training the crazy, fun, and competitive environment that makes me glad I play such a unique position. Playing college soccer became my dream when I was eight years old as I sat in the stands watching a UNR women’s game, and I am ecstatic and humbled that dream is coming true! Without Coaches Travis, Tina, and Brook I would not have this opportunity; I am very grateful for their support and for welcoming me into their school so warmly. I am truly thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing team and to attend such an unbelievable school. GO GAELS!! #blessed” — Maleah Milner

Shootin’ for a Goal to Fight Hunger this Holiday Season

homless-Reduced_web-600px

Children and adults all around us are homeless, hungry and in desperate need of items this holiday season.  There are over 5,000 people in the Sacramento region that are homeless.  Of those, youth and young adults ages 14-24 make up nearly 10% of the total population experiencing homelessness*.

Help the U14/15 Boys Academy fight hunger and homelessness in our greater community!

From December 9th to December 18th the Academy team will be partnering with the Sacramento Homeless Union Gospel Mission to help feed families and provide needed supplies this holiday season. Our goal is at least 700 food and toiletry items by December 18th!

The Mission serves over 9,000 meals each month and provides shelter for anyone to come in out of the diverse weather, keeping safe from the heat, cold and dangers of the streets 365 days per year. Seven days a week a homeless individual can get a warm meal, fresh clothing, a place to shower, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shaving cream and razors and numerous other items they need.  Mission volunteers are active in the community, supplying food boxes to families who are unable to adequately feed their children, and the elderly who barely make ends meet.  For Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas they distribute a bountiful holiday meal.

The Mission operates without tax or government support of any kind, funded entirely by generous donations of individuals and organizations in the community.  Your contributions will make it possible for them to help people make meaningful life changes and become contributing members of society.

Donating is as easy and is as effective as a hat trick!

Check your panty, or pick up an extra food or toiletry item or two at the store (please see the list below for needed items).

Drop your donation off into the boxes labeled “Food Collection Box” in the entrance of Placer United Soccer Indoor Training Center located at 1091 Tinker Rd., Suite 300, Rocklin, CA  95765.  “Tinker” is open weekdays in the afternoons from 4:45pm to 9pm, and 9pm to 5pm on Saturdays.

College Bound_Alyssa Leaman_2015
“I am very excited to announce that I have committed to Presbyterian College! I would like to thank all of the teammates I have had at Placer through the years that made me the person and player I am today. A big thank you to all the goalkeeper coaches that I have worked with: Matt Scammacca, Matt Bernard and Matt McDougall. Thank you for always pushing me to be the best I could possibly be and believing in me no matter what. I would also like to thank all my coaches, especially Todd DeCarlo, Katie Burton, and Ron Benjamin. Your constant support has helped me to become more confident in my abilities as a player. I cannot express how thankful I am for the endless hours spent on sidelines and the constant driving to practices and games my parents have endured, all of which was done with a smile on their face. I could not have gotten here without them. Last but definitely not least I would like to thank all the goalkeepers I have trained with through the years. You guys (and of course our awesome coaches) are what truly makes goalkeeper training my favorite night of the week. I have been a part of the Placer family for the past 9 years and I’ve made memories that I will never forget. I look forward to continuing my soccer career to the collegiate level next year under Coach Purcell and Coach Palmer! I cannot thank them enough for allowing me to pursue my dream of playing DI soccer! #blessed

Go Blue Hose!”

The Placer United boys and girls teams that traveled to San Diego over the holiday weekend had a great Thanksgiving at the 2015 soccerloco Surf College Cup. The new Surf Cup showcase format really suited us as four Placer teams continued where our younger’s left off at Summer Surf by playing through to the last day to earn Surf Cup championships.

Each of the final day games had tons of college coaches filling up the sidelines as they scouted for their next group of players. With parents chewing on fingernails the Placer boys and girls gave it their all and left everything on the field.

At the end of some tense, nerve wrecking, back-and-forth, fast-paced action-packed games, three Placer teams succeeded in being named Surf Champions.
