Kayla Karlsson, a 2012 graduate of the U17 Placer United ’94 Gold Team, recently committed to the University of Cincinnati. Kayla chose U.C. because of the wonderful coaching staff, the amazing athletic facilities, beautiful campus, and the opportunity to play in a very competitive Division 1 Conference. U.C. plays in the Big East Conference and plays against teams like Norte Dame, Georgetown, and West Virgina. Kayla has been playing for Placer United since she was nine years old. Jessica Santos Signs to Notre Dame de Namur University
In Jessica’s own words…
“I chose to accept a scholarship to Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA. I recently went on a visit and I absolutely fell in love with the campus. I was able to meet some of the players and they all had great things to say about both the school and the soccer program. This school is a great fit for me because I want to play at a Division II school with Kinesiology being one of the top majors and a strong soccer program. I am really excited for this oppourtunity and I couldnt have done it without the help from Placer United and of course my family.”
CDA Action This Weekend
Another big weekend ahead for Sacramento’s only USSF Academy teams at Del Oro High School in Loomis.
We have Southern California’s Arsenal coming into town Saturday, February 26th for 1:00pm kick off against the U18 and a game featuring the U16 at 3:30pm.
The gunners have been shooting with both barrels again this season and are up there with the top Academy clubs in the Country. Coach PJ Brown, last year’s Academy “Coach of the Year” wil be cocked and loaded to avenge last year’s defeats by the CDA teams.
Sunday brings MLS Academy teams from Real Salt Lake into action at 10:00am and 12:30pm. Real is one of the only academies to have a true residency program with players living together 24/7, combining school and soccer as part of their curriculum. Coached by former LA Galaxy Defender Greg Vanney, they have been “Real” busy racking up some big time results.
Hope to see plenty of soccer fans at all games!

CDA Pre-Academy Teams Attend Showcase Hosted by the San Jose Earthquakes
No rest for parents in the soccer world as players from Placer United and San Juan represented CDA in the first Pre-Academy Showcase hosted by the San Jose Earthquakes over Presidents Day weekend. The players from Placer United and San Juan with birthdates from 1996-1999 had some really good competition as the other USSF Academy clubs from the West Coast were in attendance. The event which was hosted, organized and scouted by the MLS San Jose Earthquakes, as well as, US National scouts Hugo Perez and Eric Visor, was a huge success. These very talented players were not only educated about the USSF Academy, but also introduced to the Academy format of No Re-Entry.
CDA sent a total of four teams (70 players to the event), which was the most teams from one club in attendance. So, a lot of credit goes to the coaching staff of Placer United and San Juan for being able to produce so many players that were able to play against the San Jose Earthquakes, San Diego Surf, Real So.Cal, Washington Crossfire, De Anza Force, Cal Odyssey and Santa Cruz Breakers.
Overall it was a great event that will prepare Placer United’s own young soccer players for Development Academy play, college recruiting and hopefully National team play! Well done boys!
CDA is a branch of Placer United that competes in the US Soccer Federatio’s Developmental Academy.
