02B Gold Qualify for Champions League with Win at NorCal NPL Fall Showcase

NorCal Premier—With just over 120 college coaches in attendance, the NPL College Showcase provided a high level of play and incredible in-game drama that makes NorCal’s competitions some of the best in the country. Coupling with the end of the NPL league season, the action in Davis and Modesto didn’t disappoint, with many division titles and Champions League spots coming down to the very last minute of the very last game on what was yet another exciting weekend of action.

With a U16 division that was congested at the top coming into the weekend, several close matches decided the fate for five teams that were looking for four Champions League spots. Placer United’s 02B Gold  (22 points) topped the division despite a scoreless draw on Sunday. They entered the final day of the Showcase two points ahead of Santa Rosa United (19 points), but Sacramento United’s win Sunday ensured that Placer would go home with the title. That win was United’s second in two days — the first came with a 2-1 victory over fifth-place Napa Soccer Academy (16 points), that dropped Napa into the NPL 1 for the spring. Also qualifying for the Champions League are Atletico Santa Rosa (21 points), who finished second in the table, edging Sacramento United on a tiebreaker.

October 5, 2017 – Portland State Women’s Soccer
by Andy Jobanek

CHENEY, Wash. — Redshirt junior goalkeeper Abbie Faingold and senior midfielder Katie Forsee were each named to the All-Big Sky tournament team Sunday, after the conclusion of the Big Sky championship match between Eastern Washington and Northern Colorado.

No Viking had earned all-tournament honors since Abbey Bergquist was named to the 2014 all-tournament team in the Vikings’ last trip to the Big Sky tournament.

Faingold and Forsee helped lead the Vikings to the semifinals of the tournament, as the Vikings beat Northern Arizona 1-0 in the quarterfinals Wednesday. The Vikings then faced top-seeded and eventual tournament champions Eastern Washington in the semifinals, and gave the Eagles a game but fell 2-1.

Faingold finished the tournament with six saves between the Vikings’ two matches, the third-best single tournament total by a Viking in program history.
