The Placer United U9 and U10 girls teams played in the second round and Quarter-Finals of the Norcal State Cup this past weekend.

The U10 Girls White had three wins in their second round bracket play and advanced to the Quarter-finals of the Bronze 2 Cup.  They defeated Merced 2-0 to advance to the Semi-Finals on November 17th. With a win, the girls will advance to the Final on November 18th.

The U9 Girls Red had a great run in the Cup.  They won their first two games and then lost to a very talented Santa Rosa squad.  The girls then had a 2-1 defeat to MVLA in the Premier 1 Quarter-final and ended the State Cup run as one of the Top Ten teams in the state.

The U9 Girls White also had a great run in the second round.  After a tough loss to Mustang in Game 1, the girls roared back with two wins to reach the Gold 1 Quarter-finals. In the Quarters, the girls were up-ended by Diablo FC.

The U10 Girls Red also had a very impressive run in the Cup.  They won their first two games and then squared off against FC Milpitas and lost 4-3 in a game that went back and forth.  The girls lost a tough game but still did enough to grab the #8 seed and played for the Norcal State Cup Championship.  In the Quarter-finals, the girls squared off against the #1 seed West Valley. The girls came up on the short end but finished the Cup as the 8th best team in the state.

Congrats to all of our U9 and U10 girls on a great Norcal Cup season!  Good luck to the U10 girls White!

Lauren Stafford Commits to Montana State University

“I am happy to announce that I have verbally committed to Montana State University at Billings! Never in a million years did I believe I would be playing college soccer. I have visited the campus and can honestly say I am in love with not only the location, but the coaching staff, players, and academic programs they offer. I plan on either majoring in Biology or Health and Human Performances. I know the school will make me a better player and person throughout my next four years.

I am so blessed to have a family that supports me 100%, and has for the past 18 years of my life. Thank you Mom, Dad, and Jenna; you all mean the world to me and the sacrifice and time you’ve given to me the past 12 years I’ll be forever grateful.

As for my coaches, thank you first of all to Norm Chavez, who taught me not only the basics, but taught me how to love and appreciate the game of soccer. You are an incredible coach, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you to George Vallas and Ron Sanchez, whose love for the game made my time with them unforgettable. Thank you especially to Ron Benjamin. Your time and dedication to Placer United is so greatly appreciated. Your willingness to push me harder than I ever have, and your direct coaching style has truly improved me throughout this season. Montana would not have been possible if not for you, so thank you for making my dream of college soccer come true. Thank you to my AMAZING team whose skill continues to astonish me daily. You all are my sisters for life so thank you for making my last season of club soccer the absolute best.”

Jamie Baker Commits to Bethany College

I am very excited to announce I have recently committed to Bethany College in Kansas. Never in a million years did I think I would end up in Kansas. But after visiting the school, I realized it is the perfect fit for me both academically and athletically.

I cannot believe after spending my entire life on the field and dedicating my life to soccer, my dream has finally come true! All those countless hours of practicing have finally paid off. I never could have achieved this goal without the support of my family, friends and all my teammates. They always kept me motivated to pursue my soccer career.

I want to say a special thank you to my coach, Crystal Howard! She always pushes me to go the extra mile and I wouldn’t be committed if it wasn’t for her! I am going to miss my Placer team so much. Even though we’ve only been together for a year, we are like family! I love you guys!

Go Swedes!
